What actions should the US take against the Taliban for harboring Al Qaeda terrorists like Ayman al-Zawahiri?

Neither facts that the Taliban is currently harboring terrorists, and clearly lied when promised they would not do so, should be a shock to anyone. So what now? Do we keep playing whack-a-terrorist with drones forever? What other options do we have?

Great question -- staying the course kinetically is easy, but it will be a multigenerational social/economic effort to "win" the war on ideology. The children over there will need to live in a world where they see that they and their kids/grandkids have a future not dependent on medieval ways

We were just in Afghanistan for 20 years and didn't stop the Taliban so what exactly would we do to "punish" them? Anything done to them really just punishes the people of Afghanistan. It doesn't really hurt the Taliban at all.

I thought he died like a year or two ago honestly. Looking it up realize there were reports of he was either dead or "off the grid."

It's not really our problem to deal with. The Afghan people need to step up and take their country back.

Interesting... i think i recall a conversation on this forum where I expressed that this was going to happen when we pulled out and I was sand blasted about being wrong and not knowing what I was talking about... OKAY, I am done being a baby about it now, just had a little laugh.

But I 100% agree with what SFC Private RallyPoint Member stated in their response... we would only hurt the people of Afghanistan, the Taliban does not care nor will they respond to the U.S. And spot on with saying the Afghan people need to step up!

The problem with fighting the Taliban is the same as killing a US commander. He will be replaced in and instant. The Taliban is like like cutting the head off of a snake, but it keeps growing back. The problem is, as was pointed out, there is always a lot of collateral damage. Innocent people get killed or hurt. As I see it, we either need to declare war and completely wipe them all out, or we need to get the hell out and let them settle it on their own. We are not policemen and policewomen. We are soldiers. our job is not to try to make sure everyone gets along, our jon, as it was put by a general years ago, is to kill people and blow things up. That is what we were trained for and what we do best. The middle east has had wars for thousands of years,\. They have wars like we have baseball games. So I feel we need to stop the politicking and either do what we were trained to do, or get out and defend this country.

What we are doing now to keep them from fully participating in the international community and going in when we want to deal with people like al-Zawahiri seems sufficient. They will end up like North Korea and Iran. Perpetually a pariah state that has limited options to hurt us militarily or economically.

I'd recommend taking back Bagram. Serves two purposes, (1) gives the CCP real problems from the West, and (2) it punishes the Taliban with the bane of infidel presence in the heart of tribal jurisdiction.
