Many national organizations have local chapters/posts that do great work and many that don't. You have to get involved carefully to make sure what you're getting into. I joined both the American Legion and the VFW, and tried two different posts of each. Ended up in one VFW post and quit the American Legion all together. Still, I wouldn't discount the AL, just those two posts that I tried. Long before that, I worked as with youth at risk as a volunteer with the county Probation Department. Some of the most rewarding work I ever did.Response by CPT Jack Durish made Dec 27 at 2018 9:57 PM2018-12-27T21:57:14-05:002018-12-27T21:57:14-05:00SPC Margaret Higgins4240133

SPC Private RallyPoint Member: AIDS, Breast Cancer, Alzheimer's to name a few. The VFW and American Legion do a lot around here for Veterans and the towns. Not all VFW& American Legions are that way though. At least the places I've lived. You work with children ages 8-18. It is a great time teaching and working with the kids. You can search to see if there is one in your area. If not, do what I did, start a unit.

http://www.youngmarines.com
