Would a ruck march around post to see historical sites or learn unit history be a good idea? A lot of soldiers don't understand just how the army runs on paperwork and they are crippled in that area when they get promoted to a rank or put in a position that may require paperwork. Setting aside a little time one day a week to review how counselings work and how to write them, proper bullet for NCOERS, how to properly utilize a DA200, so on and so forth, not only prepares them for the military process later on but also gives them a slight leg up for when they go to attend schools like WLC (or whatever the hell they are calling it now). You can also try to sit down with them and teach them more about their actual job. Most of the time people gravitate to basic soldier skills when technical proficiency is important as well. (I would definitely need more than one session for that. Lol) but now being in a headquarters platoon I want to get these guys out of the office. Ruck the around post, visit a museum, is good. so is stopping then somewhere and using maps and known point work up a call for fire, or find a proper clearing for a medevac. Depending on the skillset and MOS mix of the soldiers, touching on the basics of the skill or leaning on a new AIT graduate to share the latest updates from the schoolhouse.
