What are the chances of being selected for OCS if the service member is non-deployable (medical condition) but meets retention standards?

What are the chances of being selected for OCS if the service member is nondeployable (due to a medical condition) but meets retention standards?

Other details:
- can take all events in the APFT/ACFT
- on permanent profile for (possible) abdominal pain
- can PCS to CONUS & OCONUS locations but not combat/austere environments.

slim or none. you have to consider that OCS selection is a competitive process. They get plenty of applicants who are not non-deployable. Unless you have other factors in your favor that greatly offset your non-deployable status your chances of getting accepted are extremely low.

I wouldn't see you getting much of a look if there are any conditions to your service. Commissioning is pretty competitive and though you have prior service under your belt it is an entry level portal to the military and carries all of the strict eligibility requirements with that. I would suggest speaking to someone who works as an Officer recruiter to get some insight but you may have an uphill battle in front of you

Are you really meeting retention standards if you are non-deployable? I know that back in 2018 they cracked down on those who are non-deployable and I believe if one is non-deployable for 12 months, they can be separated.

From a 2018 article: "Soldiers who do not meet the standards of the new criteria, or Soldiers who become permanently non-deployable after the date of the new directive, will be considered unqualified to serve in any military branch. Soldiers who remain in non-deployable status because of administrative reasons have six months to meet the requirements or face separation."

If the service member is non-deployable, why would the Service want them to be an officer? Essentially, the Service Member with a permanent profile limiting deplorability is a limited duty officer. They can't be assigned to most combat MOS because those MOS are in the business of being deployed to fight. Same for many support MOS. IMO, the profile makes an automatic reject for OCS.

It would not be fair because the officers in your branch would have to deploy more due to your nondeployable status.

The only permanent non deployable condition I can think of where a MEB isn't warranted is HIV. People who test positive for HIV are prohibited from accessing as an officer

Doubtful- after we through out 1,000's of folks last year because they were non-deployable. The last emphasis was if you can't deploy, then you are not needed.

Officer candidates are subject to entry standards, not retention standards.

There is no likelihood for attending OCS, there is very little incentive/benefit in doing so for the military. There are an abundance of candidates who are fully deployable and qualified.
