Their future employer; the type of work, and what their family desires regarding their future. All of these are important to the former SM. I knew I could find a good job, go to a good college, and once I had my degree, go to work at Johnson Space Center in Houston. Jr., 3 MSM, JSCM 2079860

Well up front I am a security specialist and never thought being an Field Artillery guy I was going to go in that field, I could told you 20 years ago I want to drive a tank and kill people but after Desert Storm all that changed because after being in combat as a private and digging a lot of holes to stay alive, it changes your life and the way we lived because I never knew we were going to live like that, because when I joined they didn't show me pictures like that. Before I left I was involved in something called "Special Weapons" and I never knew a TS would follow me in my career as a FA guy and then I was ask to be S2/INTEL NCOIC in my last unit and I began to read the regulation and it stated that to pass the IG I needed all these schools and I went before my commander and CSM and told them that we need to be school trained in this area. I did have much of an education because I was deployed most of my military life and had no family my 19 years I was in. I was counting my duckies because I knew my career was coming to close soon because promotions were getting harder for MSG and I was starting to build my resume and I knew as a Artillery guy there was not much out there for me. It was hard to look because I was busy doing security/S2 or transitioning units for IRAQ, then they dropped the news on me that 5 of were selected to deploy in to IRAQ and help collect data for units deploying for a convoy security handbook and this was my break after I return, Wow, I have all these schools from the army, I'm trained in Security and other stuff and I took a couple college classes to transfer credits and used the book in my resume and now I work for a great agency who take care of people and I've been here for 6 years but I am trying to find the place in the system that makes me happy, one thing I'm doing is I'm on RP to educate the CSM and SGMs that we need to change NCOES up and add resume writing in senior level courses to develop our senior and our transitioning soldiers. I have noticed that there are not many senior officers in the FA side of the house on Rally Point and I wish there were more. I have noticed that there are a lot of FA CSM and SGM, so please listen if your out there, the changes doesn't start with me, it starts with you, because that rank that can make change in out Military, with out we have nothing.

STEPHENS' Response by SFC William Stephens A.
