What can be done to improve the Space Force dress uniforms? What do you think of them?

Space Force released a prototype of their dress uniforms. I don't 100% hate the jacket, it's certainly unique, but the trousers are terrible. This is really just for fun and get get some general, community feedback.

Jacket: 6.5/10
Pants: .5/10

Overall: NO GO

We definitely didn't need the mismatched top & pants. The badge on the abdomen isn't sitting well with me either. Maybe they designed these knowing the personnel will be putting them on in a dark, zero G environment.

Personally the jacket is okay, I'll give it a 7. The pants don't match at all. I was hoping more of a futuristic look. Something more like this. The buttons I don't like the buttons.

1) Either have a mandarin collar, or don't. The current "tank top" version of a mandarin collar is hideous.

2) Add a vertical stripe to the pants. Plain pants with no contrast are just boring.

3) Align the buttons/flap vertically, and add a lighter colored waist belt for contrast. Similair in color to the pants.

4) If you're going to have decorative stripes on your sleeves, do something with meaning, whether it be time in combat, time in service, time in space, etc... Don't just throw random stuff on there with no meaning...

With out trying to be over critical I do believe they appear to be retro civil war. I personally do not agree with Space Force as I’m my humble opinion it makes it sound like the agency they are trying to create is juvenile and just a kid playing with soldiers, rockets and Buzz Lightyear.

I would like to have seen it as Airforce Special Service unit like our Rangers, Special Forces, Delta team etc. They could have utilized the standard Airforce uniforms with a slight modification like a infantry style armcord or a different head covering.
Hopefully they’ll change the name and the inform you be more realistic

I hope they change it drastically, but I'm not in the USSF and will never have to wear (or probably even see the uniform). The Air Force has been known to toss uniform ideas out and reel them back soon after. When the AF was made a separate service from the Army it took a while to get insignia and uniforms changed. The insignia changed considerably at first, but the uniforms did not. Since then, though, the uniforms have become more distinctive (in both good and bad ways). Space Force will take time to grow and become their own. Most people have an aversion to change. I'm sure many Army folks of the late 40s argued against many of the changes that brought about the Air Force and then built its foundation, but it has served us well since then.

The color choice works.

The pants need to be tightened up a bit and consider adding a silver or black lampasse (trouser stripes).

As for the jacket... That's an odd choice with the diagonal button up front and what I think is a mandarin collar. If they want to keep the mandarin collar they need to do vertical buttons.

I would recommend something similar to the ASU coat in the cut, as this would allow for a more symmetrical appearance for awards and other accoutrements. Additionally that style of jacket would compliment the use of a tie, where this does not. This would also allow for the nameplate to be moved, because it looks awkward under the ribbon rack.

Even though I am born an Air Force brat, and was born at Dover AFB. I tend to care little about the Chair Force, their offshoots, uniforms, training standards, and high tech fighters. To the A-10 pilots, your beers and booze will always be on me in a bar. To the C-130 pilots, the same. The rest of it, while appreciated as your part in things might be, its not something I loose sleep over. If you want to serve and want to sham, its the place to go. I thought the Space Force was a good idea, so they get their own budget, and don't get whats left over after F-35's and the next concept that does not live up to promises, since everything we do depends on satellites anymore. But I don't care what their uniforms look like, not like the USS Enterprise is being built in Area 51 right now. Or they actually have a working Star Gate hidden away and are working on protecting us from foreign aliens right now.

Definitely different but incorporates pieces of other traditional military uniforms. High collar used in Navy and Marine Corps uniforms and on a test USAF uniform. Also Army WWI era Army uniforms. Stream of buttons looks to have come from 19th Century Cadet uniform or from Star Trek. Black and grey color scheme isn’t bad. Space is black. I like it overall.

Obviously the new Space Force uniform design is really a plot by a couple of senior officers from the Air Force who got caught up in the split and expect to go back. These new "uniforms" would pretty much put a stop to the other services laughing at the Air Force uniforms with their no-shine not-brass and their collection of badges and awards designed by a kindergarten student with ADHD.

Maybe instead of ribbons and/or medals on the breast, a “communicator” could be worn. Anyone inquiring could just speak into it and in return, all earned awards, designators, and qualifications could be verbalized back from the device.

Warren County, NC HS got one of the first 10 Space Force JROTC units. On TV, they had a COL and MSGT that said they were Space Force wearing standard blue AF uniforms. The cadet had blue regular uniforms with a Space Force JROTC patch on the left shoulder. Promotions must be fast in USSF to have a COL and MSG already. I figured maybe some LTs and maybe E-5s.

It's just fluff. How often are they actually going to be wearing the dress uniforms? I am more interested in the day today uniforms they're going to have to wear. And what they're actually going to be doing is also an important thing. The whole idea of the dress uniform is just fluff for the news and has no bearing on the actual jobs that they're doing.

There will be no new uniform that will win over everyone - especially members of this group. Whatever is the final product, it will be made fun of. The consideration they must be facing is that they are a new branch with a mission towards securing the high-ground - space. The uniform must reflect that. Its origins are USAF. so it can't look too much like them. Much like the USMC does not resemble the USN at all, despite their Dept of the Navy origins. For some, it'll take some getting used to.

First, either close the collar, as a mandarin collar, like the Marine Corps, or, don’t wear a traditional collar shirt with neck tie; instead, wear a mandarins collar shirt, similar to what a priest wears, and maybe consider using distinct career field colors for the collar that shows through the coat opening.

Second, get rid of the button and replace them with clasps that are hidden from view. You can run silver piping down the side if you want to show a break along the seem on the coat. Put a clasp at the top portion of the coat, that goes from one section to the other, with a burnished silver Space Force emblem. You guys went Star Trek with your uniform, so go all the way Star Trek. By trying to go halfway between old and new, you made the current uniform look like a door man in a fancy Manhattan building.

Go bold with your change, or go traditional and use the WWII pater uniform with your Space Force color palet.

What can be done? Dissolve Space Force and return them to the USAF. If all the SF has to worry about is their uniforms, then their job is not that important, This whole Star Trek stuff is hard to swallw for an old Leatherneck.

I wouldn't mind and would wear the uniform proudly, as I'm getting paid to do so and I really doubt the current uniform design hurts one's rapport at all. Shrugs, I'll wear Dickies proudly.

However, keeping within perspective, I would be more concerned about Captain James T. Kirk or Captain Picard suing the Space Force for Copy Right infringement, unless the designers already have permission.

The jacket looks too Hollywood and the pants is a total No Go. The jacket could use a Breast Pocket as well as bottom pockets. The collar could be improved on as well. The pants should be a more designer fit and not looking like a Flour Sack like it does on the Female.

Honestly, to me, this thing looks like someone is working too hard. We've got a collar that looks like someone is trying to hide from the cold -- or hoping to avoid identification. The buttons look like they came from another era. The insignia just above the waist looks too big and oddly placed. I go with the rule that simple and elegant beat flashy every time. Truthfully, I would say that you can never go too wrong by sticking with the basics. A basic suit and tie combo is pretty much acceptable everywhere. Pick a color that works with it -- maybe a very, very dark blue to represent the color of the sky as you are reaching space (go with black and you get mistaken for the Navy). Try not to take that one too seriously, I am red/green color blind and my choice of colors is always being criticized. Personally, I was never big on epaulets as they serve no useful function and undermine simplicity. Stick the rank devices on the collars. Once you get rid of the button scheme, you can stick the name tag and insignia on the right side of the uniform. Pockets are not a bad thing, having a place to stow an ID card or a handkerchief is useful.

Reminds me of the uniforms West Point cadets wear, if I’m remembering correctly from when my unit sent a contingency to West Point to train cadets. But, then again I may be a bit foggy seeing it’s been 50 years.
What does the duty uniform look like? I’ll give it the benefit of doubt. A well tailored uniform could make a rag bag uniform look “Tony Tiger “.

On the men's side of things, everything "dress" is always suit and tie. In the military it seems they try to give the ladies the same suit and tie look.
How about ditching that in favor of a turtleneck or, better yet, a thin but stretchy turtleneck type undershirt? And ditch that half a collar on the jackets. Finish it, or, preferably, remove it.
I wouldn't think what they have on is anything even close to comfortable at all.

With no real history to call on ... its a blank sheet of paper. The current prototype is too extreme and would be "outdated" in a matter of a couple of years. Needs to be a clean, classic design.

Take the Current Air Force uniform. Adjust the color slightly and bam your done. Less expensive, easy to produce, functional. Space Force personnel are not actually working in space, so no need for silly Hollywood uniforms.

Wow!!! The jacket promotes the cooking attire of a Chef…especially with the neck collar. This dress uniform will probably affect morale and Esprit de corps if this prototype is adopted. In no way does it promote the mission statement of Space Command.

Recommend changing the color to black, replace with a black jacket, pants more stream line look.

If flare is Space Commands guidance, redesign the shoulder loop tip projecting an arrow per example.

In closing, consider not to follow the Army’s path over the last 10 years in going through the trenches in redesigning many times and spending costs in finally promoting an Army’s Dress uniform today that promotes pride and service.

Trousers seem baggy. Jacket (?blouse): Not sure whether it is navy blue or black but somehow reminds me of Germany circa 1940, although I've read that Nazi uniforms are looked at as on some of the most stylish ever. If that line of buttons are functional an actually close the jacket then that is totally stupid. Also, the line of buttons should be reversed. Now it is a simile to a crash downward; reverse so that it suggests upward going.

Don't know why #45 tried to emulate his mentor. Even the Russian Spaces Forces didn't last long as an independent service. Hey, I grew up on Star Trek and thought Star Fleet uniforms were really cool. So, these Space Force uniforms are a good first step as far as I'm concerned.

I'm a lot less worried about the uniforms than I am about Space Force getting its own manned extra-terrestrial platforms. What use is a Space Force that cannot actually put anyone into space?

We need a Space Force running Space Patrol to protect our country and the Moon from being taken over by China. Think that's crazy? Watch what happens if China establishes a Moon base before anyone else. They will claim the entire Moon as their own, and all our stupid ideas about international law be damned.

Like the USCG's uniform being similar and mostly identical to the Navy, why isn't the Space Force just using USAF uniforms with Space Force insignia? Apparently they used Hollywood as the uniform design source and thats gotta be embarrassing to those in the Space Force.
