In my first assignment, I was a leave and finance clerk. Could be anything like promotions, iperms management which is universal to everyone, mail courier, and a multitude of other 42A tasks. A 42A use to be a seven series MOS but is now split into individual tasks depending on the unit SPC Timothy Bequette Mon, 25 Nov 2019 16:58:05 -0500 2019-11-25T16:58:05-05:00 Response by SFC Jamie McNeill made Dec 4 at 2019 12:38 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-does-a-42a-do-at-their-first-duty-station?n=5305931&urlhash=5305931 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Hello. Let&#39;s tackle that question without the MOS part. Any Soldier should get to know his unit first. What is the unit history, the chain of command structure, the unit patch, etc. Who is your first line supervisor, squad leader, etc. Will you be receiving your monthly counselings on time? Get to know your supervisor. Get your hands on the Unit SOP. All of this is not you being a &quot;brown nose&quot;. It is you taking your future as a Soldier in your hands and how serious you want to contribute to your own success. You may know by now, school was fine BUT the real school is in the office, behind the desk and real Soldier actions and leaves and finance and eMILPO and all that jazz. Each unit, BN, BDE does things different. Call your next level (ie BN) and get a copy of their SOP); then you will know how they do business and how you send your paperwork up to them. Just off the top of my head. Good Luck.
