Everything can be mocked. Mocking it well can be artistry.

Artists like T. Pratchett, C. Moore, R. Asprin, & H. I've read things like Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and some sagas like the Wheel of Time and others. When I was younger, I of course read the Harry Potter series, and still do enjoy some work by Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus).

I tend to like fantasy mostly because, since I live in the real world, I like to get away from it. This shows in my video game choices as well.

This said, I also enjoy History. Especially ancient history. Mythologies intrigue me, as do the mystery shrouded in many cultures. Most history after the 1800's, while perhaps a bit more relevant, do not interest me as much, for whatever reason. I'm not usually a Sci-Fi/Fantasy person, but I've enjoyed the Song of Ice and Fire series so far. There are a lot of the "classics" that I have really enjoyed reading that don't really have a set genre (Vonnegut, Hemmingway, Fitzgerald, Kerouac, etc.). Tom Clancy, Stephen King, Gillian Flynn have been fun reads that don't require a ton of thought to enjoy.

Recently I've been on a bit of a biography/non-fiction kick. "Devil in the White City" was pretty good. I also liked the Jon Krakaur book on Pat Tillman: "Where Men Win Glory."
