Wiesbaden, Germany was an excellent assignment. After multiple deployments got a chance to rebuild cohesion with my family and work with other NATO forces. Learned different functions in the joint environment has expanded my knowledge as a LEADER.

Wiesbaden, Germany was excellent. Best leadership, really cared about the soldiers and there family. Germany was pretty much at the center of Europe. Travel to all kinds of places and got to meet and experience a lot of different cultures.

Air Guard prior to 9/11. All fun, no stress. We got to go to great places, Curacao, Turkey, Hawaii, Korea, Canada, etc. Usual deployment time, 2 weeks. 90 days was a long deployment.

Active duty - Kelly Barracks, Stuttgart, West Germany

My best has probably been Scott AFB. Despite being at the weather Hub and hating the work my flight in particular was awesome. Great Flight Commander and Chief even after my first Flt CC and Chief moved, decent supervisor and great people on the flight. Even those who didn't always get along didn't mind working with each other for the most part and found ways to make work fun sometimes. That and the are around Scott wasn't too bad. Open country to the east with cities to the west so it had something for everyone.

The command climate is great. You work with Servicemembers from the US Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, as well as over 30 NATO militaries. Plus, you're an hour from London. Can't beat it.

Okinawa, Japan was my last and best duty station. I was able to travel to places that I would not have been able to from the US because they would have been too expensive. Also the Marines I worked with were an awesome group of people.

well seeing as how ive been to just 2 duty stations it is not too hard to choose. I spent 5 years at Fort Irwin (NTC).....I miss my family from C Co "Desert Dustoff". I am currently at JBLM and loving every minute of it. Lots to do outdoors and will never be able to do it all.

My best assignment, hands down, was U-Tapao AB, Thailand. It was in the early 70s, Vietnam was still very active war. We were working 12 on 12 off 6 & 7 days with little or no break but it was the best. Hot weather, ocean breezes, beautiful women and 9000 miles away from the Big BX. Thailand had an effect on me that I still cannot answer. I still thought of the place thirty years after leaving and went for a visit to see how it's like after the war. Thirty-five years after the fact I moved to Thailand. That was over 10 years ago now. For five years I lived 30 miles from that base still operated by the Royal Thai Navy and living in Bangkok since August 2010.

While I was a 19K, I actually really enjoyed OIF V, in Baghdad. Yeah, sucked a bit, but still.

As a 35F - maybe Key West, FL, at JIATF-S. Hard to build a good NCOER, but you can have a lot more responsibility than you might normally have as an E6. Plus there's only like 20 Army types there, so you're left to your own devices most of the time.

Isolated duty stations usually get a bad rap, however they are also the ones where the comradery is deepest and you get to learn more of the local color, culture, and society. First duty station was a "Isolated" Site. Now long shuttered. As a lower Enlisted, it is where I honed the skills of my MOS and have some very fond memories of individuals I was with. My last Active Duty posting rates equally well as again I had opportunities not afforded Soldiers in line units. It too due to the nature of assignment was considered an isolated tour. And some fantastic experiences also came of it as a Senior NCO at a NATO site in the Balkans it was again unique and rewarding.

An ADA unit outside Bitburg AFB in the height of the Regan years. Moral in the Army was thru the roof and it made the USSR shake in their worn out muddy boots

I commanded a Basic Training Company at Ft Knox(Mar76-Apr 77). Worked with a great bunch of permanent party and you really got to see how good a good you did with each cycle of trainees. The hours were long but the reward was great.

Bangkok Thailand. Lived in Hotel Downtown got extra $20.00 per day. And $4.50 taxi per day. Meals in downtown at best restaurant steaks, fresh baked bread and all the trimmings for less than$2.00 Air Force.
