What has been your most humbling assignment?

For me it has to be the NCO Academy. As a Small Group Leader the amount of influence you can have on the Army is amazing. What you teach and how you conduct business directly effects thousands of soldiers across the force. I can only hope that what I have given was useful and those that I have had the privilage of standing in front of are successful not only in the military profession but civilian profession as well.

I would have to say its my current assignment as an AIT platoon SGT. Me making big impacts on Soldiers as they come in. Watching them grow into better Soldiers and learn the military way has no better feeling!

Keeping with the TRADOC trend, being a 35N AIT instructor has been very challenging and extremely rewarding. I really will miss watching Soldiers develop into analysts.

I also had deep respect for the MI NCOA SGLs (though I haven't been one). I have never seen more professional NCOs before, besides Drill Sergeants, perhaps. They have a presence about them, and even though they are your peers, you have an increased respect for them.

SGL/SrSGL '00-'02 Ft. Stewart PLDC; Sr Instructor & Training Committee NCOIC Armor School '06-'10 and finally Sr Instructor ABOLC '11-'13. I had the privilege of training all categories of Soldiers in their initial stages: as junior NCOs, trainees and junior Officers.

I would have to say that serving in the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) was my most humbling assignment. Quite literally in the shadows of heroes. It was humbling and inspirational. Not to take anything away from the other comments, my second choice would be my time spent as an Instructor / Training Developer at the Recruiting and Retention School (Retention Department) at Ft. Jackson; especially the time I spend as a small group leader there.

In the military for me would be AIT & MOS Instructor. I still remember my instructors. I know the people I taught went global. That is a humbled feeling to experience.

I have had other humbling experiences when in squad/team or supervisor role. More recently was when I deployed to the Hurricane Sandy Greater NY area. I was a Red Cross Supervisor and to see and talk to people that lost everything just humbled me to tears.

The devastation alone was a "wow" and didn't really hit me until later when I got back home. Probably because at the time, I was into the job and immersed myself into the recovery process.
