Suppose it depends on how well your unit, and or battalion up trained for the deployment.

My orders came 4 months before we actually left for training. the training is usually 6-10 months and depending on branch, the deployment is 3, 6, or even 12 months I was gone a total of 22 months.

We knew about a year prior. 2 months at Mob and 11 months in country.

I was mob at fort hood for 5 months then CMTC in Germany for One month then in country for 12 month this is Kosovo from July 5 20005 thru Jan 1 2007 OIF then can home switch from national guard to army reserve second drill there they said you going to Iraq this is in 2007 ok what the hell I though just came back then they said you was suppose to be there in 2003 remember they told me so fort Riley for 3 month and the rest in Iraq and leave time so 1 year and 1 month Jan 1 2008 to Feb 11 2009 this what happen to me plus I pick up my E-7 that I couldn't get in the good old boy national guard

If issued Alert Orders (MOB), normal response time would be: Command notification, and then, depending on "TIME LINE" the Line Units are notified IAW with the MOB Orders. Train Up and ADMIN are factored into those time lines.

I know a guard unit currently down range. The Soldiers were given about 6 months lead time, but only a couple months documented for employers. They left home station in June for a few months training at Hood an they are due to be over for about a year and then another month in Hood before returning to home of record. Total of 16-18 months gone.
Type of unit and mission very, so there is no set time line until the unit is given orders.

I usually know close to two years out. 45 days to 2 months at the MOB site and then 9 months in country.

My first deployment was 6 months notice but no mission info till the night we left NJ. My second deployment was 5 days prior to deployment with the VA guard. It really depends on a lot of variables. The such short notice time for the second deployment was due to the primary unit not meeting strength requirements so they scratched the unit and sent us. But from what I'm told that is a very rare occurrence.
