My cousin was the NCOIC at the Missile Silo that exploded near Little Rock, Arkansas and the movie depicting that incident was flawed. Mike was a professional, spit and polish guy and a decent family man. He was shown in the movie to be a jerk and he was one of the nicest people and caring too you would ever want to meet.

It may not be much like the rest of the military but "Pentagon Wars" is very close to what Functional Area 51 Acquisition Corps is like (with the typical creative liberties). It's a good flick

Sir, I would have to go with "Band of Brothers." The story was phenomenal. I read about three or four books about their unit also. When I was a Platoon Sergeant in Afghanistan, my platoon and I watched an episode every day while we were preparing for missions. After the end of each episode we talked about what those Soldiers went through, the lessons learned and how they could be applied today in our current conflict. I believe it was a useful tool to bring our platoon even closer together.

I would have to say it is a close tie with Lone Survivor and Act of Valor..... I thought they were both portray the camaraderie and brotherhood that is so hard to capture, as well as the frustrations of the daily military struggle that we all faced while on active duty in one capacity or another.

Blackhawk Down. Those guys did a pretty good job of actually being Soldiers. They spent a week with their military counterparts prior to filming and did a humble job not overacting their parts or making huge factual changes. Sure, there were some factual points missed, but overall they did a great job of showing a military action as it is: dirty, ugly, heartbreaking, awkward, and real... all without making it "Hollywood".<div><br><div>A close second would be We Were Soldiers. Great movie. My old 1SG played an extra in that movie. It was a great idea to cast Basic Trainees and Drill Sergeants as extras. </div></div>

There are just so many good movies to choose from. I will pick one of my favorites that I feel best represents the warrior in all of us and that is Black Hawk Down. That is an excellent movie of soldiers working under extreme stress. Hoot is awesome. His speech at the end stills gives me chills listening to it.

After watching the entire movie this is the part that spoke to me the most man. I did not make this, just cut it out of the movie.

We Were Soldiers (one of my old Unit) followed by Hamburger Hill (lost some buddies on that one). Both were factual within entertainment limits. I did like O Dark Thirty of the recent ones.

FYI, Heartbreak Ridge was originally about one of the Ranger units in Grenada but the US Army would not cooperate when approached. The US Marines jumped on it and it has become a classic. Semper Fi Brothers.

The original Air Force movie from 1942. Amazing how much has not changed 72 years later. It's also an important historical film chronicling popular opinions and sentiment just months after the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor.

For me it would be "We were Soldiers Once and Young". The views and sounds even evoked the smells from memory. Too close and too good. Second might be "Saving Private Ryan" because I'm a WWII buff. Too young to know about it first-hand, but close enough to have had a father and cousins who were veterans.

Since I'm a former member of the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), I have always been partial to Gardens of Stone. Besides my bias, it's still a great movie with headline stars. I just wish it were available on DVD (other than bootlegs of course).

The flight of the Intruder!! I was on recruiting Duty when this came out and it was during Dessert Shield time I believe. The local Theater gave all military personnel in the area a free showing of the movie (NRD Louisville KY).

My Second most favorite was Pearl Harbor, I was living in Hawaii and watched the movie planes fly over my house as the were filming at Ford Island. We also had one of our Den Leaders and several of our Cub Scouts in the movie. The scouts were the two boys standing outside of the tent when the Japanese planes were flying over, there was a third young man in the tent. The den leader was an extra through out the movie.

The Devil's Brigade, For two reasons, My Uncle was part of the original bunch and I was born in Helena Montana and the town is full of of the History of the 1st Special Service Force. In Between my Army and USMC Service I was in the MTARNG at Ft Harrison Mt where the 1st SSF was and even the old Barracks had still been there! In the Movie the Bar where the big fight was is the Gold Bar in downtown Helena is still in Business!! Just a neat thing for me!

I sat a few weeks ago and watched "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Act of Valor." While I enjoyed the latter, the former told more of a story. "Lone Survivor" was one that I watched three times in a row. I read the book first so I was excited to get see the movie. I remember PCSing to Ft Knox from Germany just before Somalia and "Black Hawk Down" rose. The book was much better than the movie. "Saving Private Ryan" was a great movie...and so was "Platoon."

I will go a little more old school here for you guys though. Since we are now stationed in Belgium and this year marks the 70th Anniversary of WWII and also 100th Anniversary of WWI, I will have to go with "The Longest Day" as my favorite military movie. My family and I took a trip to the Normandy area a few months ago and it was surreal. When we got back home, my 10 year old wanted to download "The Longest Day" so he could watch it. We sat and watched it together. It was a proud evening for this old Soldier...

Lone Survivor.

Having served in the Pech and Korengal Valley, this movie got the look and feel "right". Those of us who've been to this area in eastern Afghanistan can attest to the kinetic nature of this AO, and it brought back a lot of memories due to it's "authenticity".

Restrepo and Korengal also get a nod, but those are documentaries.

SSG Pete Fleming my favorites have been The Green Berets, Patton, The Dirty Dozen, and Kelly's Heroes since childhood. There are many more but those four stand out the most for me. Not sure what the worst one is since I can't remember the name of the movie.

I very much enjoyed Men of Honor. Cuba Gooding Jr. did an excellent job in his role, and even with all the other movies I've seen with him, I still see Robert DeNiro as Chief Sunday. A close second would be We Were Soldiers. I feel it very accurately portrays the horror of war and the brotherhood that warfighters share. If I may branch off a little, Band of Brothers deserves some recognition as well. Solid acting, accurate portrayals, and to me the best part was the short monologues at the beginning of each episode.

SFC James Baber Mine is the John Wayne and Kirk Douglas classic "In Harms Way." The film was directed by Otto Preminger and is truly a classic war at sea movie.

There are a lot of great old movies out there to watch.

I enjoyed Sargeant York a lot. Sands of Iwo Jima. On Veterans Day and Memorial Day some of the movie channels will run war films non stop. I can usually find an old great movie from the war era that I never heard of before.

Modern films would be Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and Act of Valor. Taking Chance deserves a mention as well. It was based on a true story about what happened when a Marine Officer escorts a dead Marine back home.

My favorite would have to be Battle of Britain. The movie was very realistic in its portrayal of the air battles over England. One of my favorite scenes is the one in which Susannah York is visibly shaken after seeing some of her girls lying dead. I read a book about the making of the movie and in it it was stated that York was not acting when she started to cry. She really got into the scene and it affected her terribly.

We were Soldiers Once, read the book too, very engrossing. Band of Brothers, and Saving Private Ryan... The film shot in first person, was very well done, giving a first person view of what occurred on D-Day.

I really enjoy the movie, "The Boys in Company C". It really captures Vietnam (from what I've been told), and the utter feeling of despair that some service-members would feel. I highly recommend watching it.
Lone Survivor ( "Operation Redwings"), is a great movie as well. These two are in my top ten.
