What is your most memorable reenlistment ceremony?

I reenlisted down range. During the reenlistment we started to take small arms and 107mm rockets. Instead of going for cover we continued the ceremony while rounds landed around the COP. Granted we all know reenlistment ceremonies are not long and we was already reciting the Oath of Enlistment at this point.

Our Company supported a "Polar Plunge" for MS. I reenlisted on the side of the river in February, and then plunged into the water. This was winter in Minnesota.

When I was enlisted - I re-enlisted on the weather deck of my MK 15 Phalanx Close In Weapon System...nothing to special. However, I had been a part of several re-enlistments at bars. I haven't seen anything to out of the ordinary in terms of re-enlistments since I crossed over to be an officer.

I'm about to be on I think my 4th reenlistment and somehow I've yet to have to do a reenlistment ceremony

Not reenlistment, but just promoted to LCDR onboard the USS Constitution, with my father (former Army Officer) delivering the Oath, wife and mother pinning, and sons looking on.

The one that didn’t happen according to plan.

I was a USAR LTC and civilian high school band director. A former student just finished her second hitch in the Navy and wanted to do the ceremony at the school in front of her extended family. I got permission to do a full student body assembly and arranged for a huge flag to hang in the gym. The band would play a march and the National Anthem, the kids would see a “career” moment of an alumni...we’re talking full dog and pony!

Then a storm came through and knocked out power to our district. No school.

But the ceremony still happened with just her, her family, me, a couple of custodians, and the school superintendent. And the ginormous flag. I’ve never seen her family so proud. Yep, it’s all about the one who is signing their name yet again.
