i've never requested a care package, but i always appreciated any gummy candy. my last one had the new pepperidge farm oatmeal chocolate chip cookies...AMAZING!!!

Baby wipes and SPAM. Me and a buddy would sit on a mountain in Afghanistan and pass a can back and forth, it was a good way to end a hard days work.

We didn't have to ask our nephew...we taped the Indycar, Nascar and NHRA races and sent those in each care package. One year I was able to get all 33 Indy 500 drivers' signatures on an Indy 500 flag. Sent that to him and it hung in their bunker in Afghanistan until he came home. He took on another tour as well. Another time he had complained about the rucksacks chaffing their backs. Three dozen large silk cowboy scarfs and several bottles of Gold Bond powder went into the next care package (for him and the others). Wore those under their shirts. We sent gun oil and patches because they couldn't get resupplied with that enough. Of course, there was all the other junk food stuffed in the box, large bags of whatever several of them liked (red hots, root beer barrels, Jolly Rancher, etc.) He would send us a list of the favorite hard candy and I stocked the box.
And I still remember going with my mom to the local VFW once a month during Nam. All the women were putting together the care packages. Lots of stuff went into those boxes.

SSG Shavonde Chase I typically requested a good Italian hard salami. They do not need refrigeration and it is a little reminder of home. I also made a deal with my kids to make sure I was current on music. Mom would give them money and they would buy me CDs that I didn't have and send them. It was pretty cool little thing that I did with them.

SSG Shavonde Chase my brother shipped a fifty-pound bag of popcorn when I was in Vietnam. Would pop-up a large brown grocery bag & share it with those attending the movie at the open Ampitheater... never had to take any beer...
