SFC Vernon McNabb I am retired now. I had the opportunity to be a part of the Space Shuttle team from the start of the program until after the last Space Shuttle flight. Watching the launches, keeping up with the missions, and seeing the Space Shuttle land was great. I was able to go to Florida for three launches. One launch was delayed, but I was able to see two launches, including the last Space Shuttle flight, Atlantis, in July 2011. I was fortunate to work at a job that I loved.

My answer is simple- my job is so cool because it's something that I love to do, where I can be creative, and I can make people happy.

SFC Vernon McNabb My job in the Army was cool because, whether at home or deployed, everyday was real. And, because folks always talk smack about us, but can't live without us or get enough of us in combat. In retirement, my job is so cool, as I make difference every day with the future of our country.

I conduct health/sanitation inspections and write MFRs for said inspections, and I even manage to upset Chains of Command with my MFRs (I made a whole bunch of Field Grade Officers mad in Iraq, once) when I report my findings with pictures of the nastiness I find. Then I go have lunch. People can argue a memo all they want. They can't argue a memo that has pictures included.

My rating in the Coast Guard was so diverse in scope of responsibilities, that I could work a solid month - and NEVER spend two days doing the same thing twice. And I'm not talking two days in a ROW, I'm talking about two days out of thirty! I loved it!!

I Get PAID to ride Motorcycles, Every new model in three brands leading test rides. R&D of the model and / or tire testing. Riding and teaching others to ride every week. Industry Media days. Customers that drop off a check or pile of cash and say Build it....Others that have a garage full of bikes and bring them on a rotating basis so every month I have a different bike to work on, ride and enjoy till next month. It ain't jumping from a fixed wing at 30K AGL but it aint sitting behind a desk either.

My job is cool because I work for myself. I work the days I want too as long as my customers are taken care of. I love what I do but may have to give it up to stay home with my Bride of 35 years. She comes first.

That no two days have ever been the same, while some seem to think deployments or garrison is ground hog day, truly, you never know what curve ball or leader/subordinate is going to change the course of your day, week or month. Especially in aviation and in flying it is a remarkable experience and every time I fly it resets my motivation meter to deal with the office and everyday leader problems, being a Chinook Pilot is the coolest damn job!
