What military hacks have you used while camping?

As I love to be outside in just about every environment curious what sort of field hacks people have used to make their camping life easier? From Ranger beads (pace counts) to glow sticks what camps hacks have you figured out? As well where do you like to go camping?

My favorite "hack" is that of making a fire bed during very cold weather. This actually predates the modern military and was probably a common practice with members of Roger's Rangers or other like minded folks. Fire beds would fall more under survival situations as opposed to anything tactical, but hey - we're talking camping, not E & E. A good example (although humorous in this instance) can be found in the movie "Jeremiah Johnson".

Wife will only Cabin camp now.( we got spoiled) We go every yr. I honesty don't mind it.

On our boy scout campouts the best one we use get online for a police call the other troops look at us weird till they realize what we are doing

In cold weather (freezing) turn your water bottles/canteens upside down if you have them on a belt or lanyard...Water freezes from the where the air is first...Therefore, if your bottles/canteens start to freeze, you can still unscrew your caps...

As far as things i learned in the Army. In extreme cold weather put your boot opening into the other one and put them under your head as a pillow. It will be enough to keep them from freezing overnight.

Long term camping, trench around the tent to direct runoff water away from your tent interior.

As a national guardsman... Beer!
