SFC Private RallyPoint Member that statement is so true!!! I was in the "The Dab" as well with 1/320th. I was there when SPC Castro and 1LT Weaver paid the ultimate sacrifice. Those are the days you never forget. I still remember standing on the roof and watching the fireworks when TM Merrill went in the Tabins and then later when then MG Terry gave us the authorization to ultimately change the battlefield. We laid waste to Babur, a part of the Khosrows & Shuyens. We did a lot of good things there. STRIKE!!! AIR ASSAULT!!!

During my first tour, I was an exec in Kandahar. During my second tour, I was the JTF Phoenix HQ/J3 Electronic Warfare Officer at Camp Phoenix just east of Kabul. But I had team members in MEZ, Herat, Gardez, Gahzni, and Kandahar. I spent a lot of time traveling to ensure they were supporting their Army COs.

In the early part OEF 02-03 most of my time was spent in the North and Central East. Main Company was at Bagram Air Field but our EOD teams and myself were all over. Bamyan, Khost, Jbad, Abad, Baron Khost, Gardez, Orgun-E, and Shkin areas. Now I find myself in Kandahar 12 years later.

Bagram Airfield, the Army called me the Airfield manager, the Air Force called me lots of names. Working with the Italian Air Force Engineers was the best, wine rations, Grappa, dinners as a honorary member of the unit not as a guest.

Kandahar Airfield from Nov. of 2013 until Aug. of 2014. All things considered, really not that bad at all (though I can think of many trips I would rather take). One funny part about it was that I did a lot of independent study of Pashto before deploying, thinking that I could hone some language skills over there. I probably saw ten Afghans at the most the entire time I was there, including our interpreters. If I had learned Hindi or even better, Punjabi, I would have been able to practice all the time with the many Indian contractors who are working there. I still like Pashto and am still studying, but not much available in the way of interaction in Albany, NY as you can imagine.

2nd deployment 09 out east, FOB Goode in Paktyia and then Findley-Shields in Nangahar, with some side trips to Mehtar Lam and points north.
From 10-13, I traipsed around as a contractor and hit most of the places in between.
