What’s Fort Carson like?

I’m re-enlisting and I would really like to go to fort Carson but because of my current unit for my own sake I would like to know what the units out there are like. Specifically the field artillery units. Anything helps

Don't know anything about field artillery, but for me Ft Carson was worth it. No matter what the hint was like you were still at the foothills of the rocky mountains in Colorado.

It's mechanized, so it loves being in the field, long days, never seeing your family, gunnery, NTC, ineffective PT. Morale is very low, and the Officers care more about their careers and OER bullets than taking care of Soldiers.
Colorado Springs is great, Carson not so much. As a Soldier, you won't get to experience much of Colorado except for Pinion Canyon.

Go to Fort Carson. 4ID has artillery Units in the BCTs and training land to maneuver and an impact range to qualify your crews.

My unit shares barracks with the FA unit in my brigade and they are pretty nice. Fort Carson is a lot of fields, a lot, weather is all right.... hailstorms wreck the cars so be mindful of that. Colorado Springs is very nice, expensive but nice

I enlisted for it originally, 1976 only got to spend my year guarantee before I was sent to Korea.
Then re-enlisted in Korea for Ft. Carson again knowing that my specialty was not authorized in E-5 at the unit level, and would be sent to DS/GS shop. I called on my old unit and let them know I was back and available if they wanted to pull strings to get me reassigned. They did and I stayed with them until a new school opportunity came up.A total of almost three years and I was in (TAB) H Battery 1/29 FA. I enjoyed most of the time there and we have the best weather for outdoor activity in the world. I still live in Colorado.

Great area, just expect the weather to change approx. 6 times per day. High wind advisories most of the time. The barracks room I was in with 2ID were dated and kind of run down though. Also running in the winter, after a tour in Iraq was hell. Pretty sure I could feel the icicles forming in my lungs. It's also important to note not to go into the 10th Group area... or Cheyenne Mountain.
