Some states now issue a Veteran's ID card to honorably discharged veterans that they can use a places offering discounts....you bring in your DD214, etc. Does your state have one?

That is a good question SGM, thank you for prompting me to look into it. The state of Oklahoma does not currently offer a veteran's ID card. However, upon presenting your DD214 at the DMV, a veteran indicator can be placed on the upper left hand corner of your driver's license. As far as I can tell, the only three other forms of veteran identification accepted in Oklahoma are an Active Duty ID, Retired ID, VA Medical ID, or 100% service connected ID card.

Pennsylvania offers both an ID Card/or annotation on Drivers Lis: Governor Corbett signed Act 176 2012 into law allowing for the issuance of a Pennsylvania Driver's License or Identification Card that clearly indicates that the bearer is a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. This is being accomplished by adding a Veterans Designation directly to the bearer's Driver's License or Identification Card.

To my knowledge, Texas does not have a veteran's ID card. However, if you provide your DD214 to the DMV you can get "Veteran" put on your license. I have been debating whether or not to get it. I'm currently leaning toward getting it.

In Kansas, we have VETERAN printed on our Drivers license and I have it on my license plate too.

In Ohio you can have an "Armed Forces" stamp placed on your Driver License or state ID card by presenting your DD Form 214 at the time of issuance or renewal.

My stated offers this, but I just use my retired military ID card. However, Lowes will honor your VA disability ID as well.

Alaska now has a Veteran's identifier "V" embedded in the American Flag on the new Driver's License that just came out this year.

This sound like some plan by the Conservatives to disenfranchise veterans and take away their right to vote…oh you mean they just add a letter to the state ID, that everyone carries, to prove that a veteran did serve…like prove who they are and that they are entitled to certain benefits? This must be a “Vast right-wing conspiracy!"

The state I currently live in Arkansas, does not have anything like that as far as I know, but you can get veterans plates with a copy of your dd214, but I think it cost more than a regular license plate. I just use my VA service connected disability healthcare ID card.

Iowa has the ID card, it has the stamp on the drivers license and you can get plates with your service's emblem if retired. Veterans can get a veterans plate with old glory in place of the service emblem.

The State of Texas like most has them. The only real issue I have is having your veteran status on your drivers license becomes a ridiculous issue. I as a retired service member went to renew my drivers license in Houston. TX, and the lady behind the counter says my retired ID isn't sufficient proof of my "Honorable Service of 25 years". I have to provide a copy of my DD-214, well gents I went ballistic on this, so I contacted Austin and they additionally made the same comment. So the Hell with it I'll move back to Tenn. then

Michigan does not have a state Veteran's ID card per se, but with proof of Honorable military service an endorsement can be put on a Michigan Driver License or Michigan ID Card (for non licensees) that simply reads "Veteran".

Michigan is a one license plate State and with proof of Honorable service (Veteran or Active Duty) a plate can be issued with the emblem of the vehicle owner's branch. The one time fee for this is $5.00. If the Veteran has a 100 percent service connected disability rating, he/she can opt for "DV" on their plate instead of the emblem or the branch emblem can be used with a disability sticker applied (pictured above). In addition, 100% disabled Vets are exempt from property tax on their primary residence.

The most useful card in my wallet is my VA Healthcare card (also pictured above).

Kentucky has it on our Driver's License. We have a very active KY Veterans Dept. I also have my VA card and Life Member VFW card. We didn't wear those hats in the 1960's and 70's , but we were proud of our service and no damn war protester EVER spit on me.

Texas offers VETERAN stamped on your driver's license, free license if you are 60% or more disabled. The same goes for license plates ($3 processing fee). They offer standard vet plates, service oriented vet plates and disabled vet plates. They also offer the smattering of distinguished decoration plates that a number of States now offer.

I have my VIC, but have not received my new version yet. It may be because it has been a while since I have been in for an appointment.

I think all veterans should receive an National ID card, and at a minimum (preferably those with an Honorable Discharge), disabled vets should have some sort of BX/PX, Commissary, etc. benefits. Even just online access to purchase worn out Service or MAJCOM shirts/hats and other service related items would be nice. Once a month base privileges is a decent idea, like say, the second weekend of every month.

Well Florida sort of has a "veteran ID card" they charge you $1 fee plus the cost of a new "drivers license or ID card" and put a bold letter V towards the bottom. I just waited until time to renew still cost me close to $40 for new DL with veteran "ID" on it. Kind of cheap for a state with a large retired veteran population.
