The state of Oklahoma does not currently offer a veteran&#39;s ID card. However, upon presenting your DD214 at the DMV, a veteran indicator can be placed on the upper left hand corner of your driver&#39;s license. As far as I can tell, the only three other forms of veteran identification accepted in Oklahoma are an Active Duty ID, Retired ID, VA Medical ID, or 100% service connected ID card. This is being accomplished by adding a Veterans Designation directly to the bearer&#39;s Driver&#39;s License or Identification Card. The only real issue I have is having your veteran status on your drivers license becomes a ridiculous issue. I as a retired service member went to renew my drivers license in Houston. TX, and the lady behind the counter says my retired ID isn&#39;t sufficient proof of my &quot;Honorable Service of 25 years&quot;. I have to provide a copy of my DD-214, well gents I went ballistic on this, so I contacted Austin and they additionally made the same comment. The one time fee for this is $5.00. If the Veteran has a 100 percent service connected disability rating, he/she can opt for &quot;DV&quot; on their plate instead of the emblem or the branch emblem can be used with a disability sticker applied (pictured above). The same goes for license plates ($3 processing fee). They offer standard vet plates, service oriented vet plates and disabled vet plates. They also offer the smattering of distinguished decoration plates that a number of States now offer.<br /><br />I have my VIC, but have not received my new version yet. It may be because it has been a while since I have been in for an appointment.<br /><br />I think all veterans should receive an National ID card, and at a minimum (preferably those with an Honorable Discharge), disabled vets should have some sort of BX/PX, Commissary, etc. benefits. Even just online access to purchase worn out Service or MAJCOM shirts/hats and other service related items would be nice. Once a month base privileges is a decent idea, like say, the second weekend of every month. I just waited until time to renew still cost me close to $40 for new DL with veteran &quot;ID&quot; on it. Kind of cheap for a state with a large retired veteran population.
