What's the best piece of advice you have received outside of the military?

We all have had great mentors in the military, but I'm curious about those outside of our community that have given great advice. Mine was from my father, "The hardest thing an honest person has to understand is the world is not honest."

"If you think it's wrong, it probably is wrong, so don't do it" I was told that by a great counselor who shared his views of life to me.

"If you borrow something from someone, treat it like you would treat it as if it were your own."
