What tricare options do I have upon retirement?

As a “late in my career” hire into the AGR program in National Guard, I will get 20 years federal service right after my 60th birthday. I can either waiver the few remaining months to get those 20 years, or retire as a traditional guardsman on my 60th birthday. What would be best as it relates to retirement benefits, specifically medical truncate options?

That should read Tricare, not truncate.

Go and see the Tricare specialist at your local military hospital. I think you have the option for Tricare prime or standard. Prime doesn't help unless you are near a military medical facility.

If you retire traditional, money and medical don't start until 60. If you can get 20 good years before 60 than pay and medical come sooner. But it sounds to me they are simultaneous for you.
As for Tricare Select or Prime that is up your circumstance.
