The correct way to address a Master Chief Petty Officer is "Chief Petty Officer, insert name", or written as MCPO,insert name,In formal situations, a Master Chief Petty Officer should always be addressed by their full rank.

I have always called him Master Chief and their last name.

depends on situation - formal vs informal - formally I have addressed them as master chief of the coast guard in lieu of the common Master Chief (insert name) as is the informal.
