the bag that is not quite a ruck but larger than a assault pack. I think the I have heard it called a 3 Day bag. This was a great Idea.

- The M65 Field Pants w/o the liner. Most durable trousers for the field... if you could get them.
- The canteen cup stove. What good's a canteen cup if it's filled with cold coffee?
- The black wool watch cap. Stay's warm when wet.
- The LBE. Not every mission needs body armor.
Despite these classics I have to say I'm really pleased with the improvements in cold weather gear. I'm also glad that much of our gear now uses common batteries. Never could figure out the point of that goofy strobe battery.

I agree with Col Campbell -- the P-38, an old K-Bar from, my enlisted days in Vietnam and a Walther PP that my Dad brought back from WWII (don't have a clue how he got that!) but, its still one hell of a weapon.

The green field jacket liner. I got mine as a PV1 in 1997. I still wear it on chilly days. I got a new one a few years back, but it just didn't feel warm enough and it was too bulky so I went back to my old one.

My woobie you can use that for just about anything, a curtain, blanket, clean surface for layouts, a pillow if balled up, and don't forget extra padding for the Xbox or TV yourhiding in you duffle or Ruck sack. Also my grenade pouch not for the grenade but to hold other things I couldn't fit in my pockets while in kit.

I'd have to go with my old Vector Pack, it was big enough to carry all my personal gear, and my radio bag/patrol pack snapped right onto it. It was great since I never had to hump anywhere with it since every field op I was on always had me riding in a hummer and chasing tanks. When they phased them out unfortunately I wasn't able to keep anything more than the radio bag which I still use as a backpack today roughly 12 years later.

Either my AWP (all weather parka) or my wool glove liners with the little sticky pads on the fingers for picking up things. Both are still functional, warm, and low maintenance.

M-1949 parka, Mickey Mouse boots, and the ubiquitous P-38 (still have mine on my keyring after 40 years). The old buttpack was also a good piece of kit. I bought one at a surplus store while I was still in. It was my go-to for an overnight hiking trip for years.

The green N1 deck jacket. Perfect weight to wear over short sleeves when it is not too cold or you are working up a sweat but nice and warm over long sleeves or a sweater when you are standing around in the cold. Just found one at a surplus store that is like new!
