For those interested in college, where can a transitioning veteran or active service member get local resources for expanding their eduction?

The VA at American Lake has a great education department. They always ran my questions to ground, ensured my monthly payments went out, etc.

Typically, you can stop into any college or university in the area (I go to UW-Tacoma and PLU) and speak to a VA representative. There are also a few dedicated VA offices that can be found on their website for a POC. I am on mobile right now, or I'd grab those for you.

The best resource is the Veteran's Affairs Rep at the college/university you are planning to attend. All schools have a rep on staff, and they are there to ease your transition. Good Luck!

Also, If it is you going to school in WA, move sure to bring in a copy of your DD214 to the VA office. I think it is state-wide but I know that at the University of Washington they will usually cut your Tuition costs in half. I don't know how the Post-911 works, as I have the MGIB-SR (1606), but it may help with any limits of how much they will pay.

I would recommend resources such as AMVETs, VFW or American Legion.

If the Member has access to post I highly recommend going to the Stone Education center. It's on the road behind the National guard center that sits on 2nd and Pendleton. I have an appointment to go speak with an advisor soon!! Really exited!
