It didn’t make sense for me to pay for medical since I was covered for being his dependent. If she selects the insurance under her federal employment, she would have to use that insurance first before TRICARE will cover any cost. I hope this helps. You can read on eligibility for TRS at https://www.tricare.mil/Plans/HealthPlans/TRS

 TRICARE Reserve Select | TRICARE

Response by SGM Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 25 at 2019 11:06 PM 2019-04-25T23:06:19-04:00 2019-04-25T23:06:19-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 4580372

Well I had a similar situation except my wife was not a service member. The best advice I can offer is for her to get her own individual FEHB plan and you keep your TRicare with you and other dependents( children) on that plan which is cheaper.

She can remain on your dental and vision coverage I do believe since those are separate from Tricare so she won’t have to get those thru FHEB. Or she can take no coverage and use the VA if she accepts the Civilian position.
