I'd have to pick Jimmy Stewart. He enlisted in Army Air Corps as a Private at the beginning of WWII. By the end of the war he had applied to and been accepted as a pilot and had been promoted to Colonel. After the war he stayed in the Air Force Reserve eventually being promoted to Brigadier General. President Reagan promoted him to Major General on the retired rolls in the 1980s. As such he is the highest ranking military member to come out of Hollywood.

Famous veterans: Walter mathau, tony Curtis, rod styger, Sidney Poitier, senator bob dole, president Kennedy, senator George McGovern, sec. Bob Kerry to name a few. That heavy set guy with the gravelly voice that in a lot of Adam sandler movies is a Vietnam vet. Ary something that was in full metal jacket and other films also.
