I had not heard of the Sykes-Picot agreement, but it all boils down to who has a legitimate claim to the territory of present-day Israel. That agreement gave it to the Arabs, but the 1948 arrangement gave the territory to the Jews. I doubt this disagreement will ever end, since both sides think the territory belongs to them.
