We're federally funded, and we get the bottom of the barrel after Active Duty has taken its shovels-full? It's very frustrating! I've been trying go to Sec+ school since I joined the Reserves almost 6 years ago, in 3 different units with 3 different commands. Always get the no money excuse, so I've sorta given up. Looks like I'll just need to pony up the cash out of my own pocket, and look at it as an investment in my civilian career.

Things changed in the 90's as to how Reserves were used. For a dinosaur like me, there were a few good reservists, particularly the PJ's because you could not expect those men to sit around waiting in peace time. However, and I am saying this from an historical perspective, Reserves were bs. The idea was for young men with political ambitions to get that line of military service on their cv without any real risk. Had I had a crystal ball, I would have snapped a photo of the reservist who showed up at my base in 1977 in his bespoke uniform with a waxed mustache that extended beyond both sides of his face. And that, my friends, is why reserves came in last for funding.
