Now I have heard of a few and the proud to appear in front of the board but like my friend he was Sergeant and the board told him he was not responsible yet as a junior NCO, so this made him very negative toward the SAMC and later down the road he showed his peers and the ARMY he could make SFC without it, along with a lot of other good NCOs out there. MY thing is I know that the history and the Bio doesn't talk much about Audie Murphy being a Sergeant in the ARMY but why is the LOGO hold the rank of SSG and why did they wait unit I was a SSG to send me to the board above my peers. Just that questions out there, I know there are hard chargers out there who are Sergeants and that is what is wrong with the ARMY we train our JR. leaders to fast for combat and a lot of them come back in boxes and that is the truth. I think, My thoughts hear me out, that SAMC should be designed for the Elite group of NCOs SSG and Above who know their soldiers and their families who have superior LEADERSHIP skills who have proven themselves in all kinds if situations. I can see what my friend felt the day he went to the board as a young SGT all that studying and he is told that he is not "Good enough to lead." Even thou he has a combat patch and some of the board members as I recall did not. He had to wait all that time to make SFC to prove himself.

SO what dose SAMC do for us?

STEPHENS' SFC William Stephens A. There are a lot of young Sergeants that are doing just that and are being recommended for it. Given some of what is being evaluated at the board, Sergeants, as that first line leader, are some of the best equipped to go before the board. What that does for them is gives them that mentorship network they might not get at their unit to be able to be better NCOs. Now should all Sergeants be SAMC members? No. That's why there are requirements for recommendation. But nothing stops that member that gets recommended and selected from mentoring that one in his/her unit so that they become better NCOs and maybe, become eventual members themselves. SAMC gives you what you put into it. It is a vehicle to mentor young Soldiers and NCOs as well as provide another positive example of the Army to the community. Also as someone stated already, SSG is also a junior NCO; however that doesn't matter. You are inducted by your leadership skills, your morales, your contributions to your community and the association, and by simply getting recommended by the board. FORSCOM Reg 600-80-1 outlines the qualifications clearly. Just because one is a sergeant does not make him ineligible. I sit on the board for Fort Riley's SAMC and honestly can say we had a sergeant smoke the board no questions asked, and 3 SFC, one was a First Sergeant, get kicked out because the way the presented themselves and the way they spoke about there leadership was based on Integrity violations. I believe we should have more Sergeants get this prestigious award and be inducted as to the mentorship and leaders will help them because a better NCO overall. This is just my professional opinion. If a buck Sergeant can be selected they have to be on the ball.
Have always had great respect for NCOs who earned induction into the Audie Murphy and SGT Morales clubs.
I was selected as Soldier and NCO of the year for several organizations and commands but never was able to get inducted into either club. Used to be frustrating to go to the boards and see guys I had decimated at the NCO of the year boards get inducted.
Was blessed to be selected to serve as a CSM, but the only thing I ever set out to do and failed at was the SAMC and SGT Morales program.
