Why is it more popular to leave a paper trail then electronic?

Do both.
Systems fail. Paper gets lost.
It is much harder and unluckier to have both happen to the same item.

I do my taxes every year by hand and have hard copies. Some electronic records are only kept for ten years or a year. I can go back and look at previous returns because I have the hard copy. With electronic recordfs, that might not be the case.

Technology can fail, hard copies can get lost. So keep both. I usually keep multiple copies of important documents. It's come in handy when a copy has been lost. Or if a computer sends your information into the ether.

In all seriousness websites like iPerms go down and records are lost. But fires and moves happen and paper is destroyed or lost. I keep both if I can, if it is important enough.
