Why would an American resist evacuation?

Much has been said about us bugging out, and many picture Families hunkered down, but is that the case? Deep cover folks not essential to the mission either left long ago, or were ordered to remain for future intel. That leaves contractors and businessmen. It's not a tourist destination, so rule that out. The contractors are often given priority lift organically via corporate jets, so what type of business are the rest engaged in? Many are making major coin from the opium trade, and likely see neither need or wisdom in presenting themselves at HKIA. Time will tell, but this is just food for thought. The forces may have to fight their way out, and American blood has been spilled. No more bloodshed for anyone that chooses not to leave, regardless of nationality or reasoning. IMO.

There is a lady there, an American, that runs an animal rescue that places cats and dogs with SMs back in the States. She is refusing to evac until ALL 250+ animals and her staff AND their families (approx 125 pax) are evacuated.

I have a retired friend who left in May. She said they saw the writing on the wall and got out of there. I don't necessarily think anyone was "left behind".

I'm not convinced that everyone there knew how critical this would become and how fast it would happen. And since we're well acquainted with out our government operates, I could totally buy a story in which they were told that there would be time and resources only to find that wasn't the case at all.

from what I understand from what my buddies involved have said, it was basically "drop what you are doing and leave" for the pullout.

Anyone not involved in direct military operations was left in the dark, including our allies.

as a MARINE that served in Beirut in 1983, and watched my Brothers Murdered in a terrorist attack ( by the way the same MEU and Battalion that was hit then), how can we continue to support and follow politicians that seem to be so careless and callous with the lives of our Brother and Sister service members and American Citizens ?

Heck - figure it out with hurricanes, wildfires, and floods first. Those are tangible threats with evacuations that get ignored all the time.

“ The US is LEAVING AND YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ASS OUT!” isn’t really a tangible sort of threat people can wrap their brains around. Especially if they’re in the habit of ignoring evacuation orders for things like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods. Especially when it’s been broadcast for 4 months.

Amercan citizens trying to get to the Airport were physically beaten, had passports taken. American Citizens of Afghanistan origin were refused passage. Not sure how is going to work.

The US has not only left our guys behind, but have refused any nationality besides US passport holders to even enter Bagrahm Airport. Combined that with the bombs, it's too easy for the government to wash their hands and walk away. It's truly sickening.

Key phrase "resisting evacuation". That means they could have escaped but chose not to.
It happens all the time with natural disasters. People think that they will be immune to the devastation for whatever reason. Then the shit hits the fan. Next thing you know they are begging for help and claiming to have been abandoned.
I'm not talking about the poor souls we abandoned or who ended up getting snagged by the taliban. They deserve to be rescued, but that will be costly in lives and resources.
For those who CHOSE to stay or wait just another few days to see if the Taliban were going to play nice this time, you made a bad decision that cost lives.

And now we have 13 folded flags. 13 childless Mothers who probably can't catch their breathe right now. Guys who would have been Fathers, Husbands, Senators, Business owners, Doctors, Clerics, etc.,

My contempt for the current administration has never been higher. CJS should be relieved of command for not making the President see what a bad plan was being launched. And POTUS should resign.
