As long as you're qualified and it benefits the unit in some way, they'll generally sign it. With that said, it may be hard to justify the benefit a recon qualified soldier brings to an MI BN vs a combat arms BN. Only way to know, is ask. I'd say not much chance for a 35F1O unless there's an MTOE position or you're assigned to a special ops/mission unit. I'd work on airborne, air assault, and 35F assignment in special ops/mission unit before trying for RSLC.

As a 96B/35Fs back in the day, we lucked out and had MTOE slots at Corps LRS Companies and two 35F3V instructor slots at LRSLC. Easily the best assignments and soldiers I worked with in the military. Response by SGM Brent Dck made Sep 15 at 2019 3:36 PM 2019-09-15T15:36:12-04:00 2019-09-15T15:36:12-04:00 SPC Elijah J. If you’re a squared away soldier and your goals are to a unit that will utilize these skills, i.e. ranger regiment, SMU or go the SF route I would go up to bat for you as an NCO. Honestly, the best way to justify it is if it benefits the units or your personal goals in the future, the more you can justify it the better chance of saying yes.
