With the drawdown, shouldn't they be taking volunteers to get out at 15 years instead of holding expensive boards?

If someone is willing and wanting to retire at 15 why wouldn't you wan them to?

In the Air Force they are allowing select AFSCs/Rank combinations do this. Although I agree with you that they should do this across the board. I for one would take a 15 year retirement if offered. Unfortunately they don't offer it for my AFSC since we are poorly manned.

SSG Burns, a lot of the ones they want out wouldn't take the 15yr retirement.  They are "cozy" in their positions and have no intent on stopping the benefits they get before they get that 20yr letter.  Also unfortunate is that the metrics these boards will use to determine who's the dead weight will largely miss those as well since they are good at making it appear on paper that they are competent in their duties.

I agree with SFC Harper. I deployed with a MSG who on paper made her sound like the #1 soldier in the army. In real life she was a dead weight. She had more profiles then I had fingers. She slung her weapon like a purse and brought 5+ bags during a deployment and complained about carrying them. She even used junior enlisted soldiers to carry her bags.
