Great infographic, 1SG Private RallyPoint Member! I would expect nothing less from the "This Day in History" guy. Just goes to show you that we are not the largest military around these days. And that's saying something for the world's policeman. (I say that with utmost respect. We have the (implied, at least) mission of being the world's policeman, so we should have the personnel to perform that mission.)

It never ceases to amaze me, the size of some of the other nation's militaries....

Of course, the entire populations of some of our Southern States would mobilize (specifics omitted to avoid name calling) if needed for national defense...of that I have little doubt. And parts of the rest of the nation, although in some states the weapons laws would make arming difficult....

But you would definitely at some point hear Wolverines being shouted out of the back of trucks

Bigger isn't always better.
Remember how concerned some people were that Iraq had the fourth largest Army in the world in 1990? That didn't turn out so well for them. Julius Caesar in his Gaul campaign laid siege to Alesia and when Gallic reinforcements showed up to relieve Vercingatorix's besieged Army, he was outnumbered between three and six to one.

Guts and training trump numbers.
