Canada still tries to identify unknown war dead. Some are due to lack of records and not updating the tombstones.
Canada had a poplulation of 8 million in 1914.
650k served. 66K died. 172K wounded. 4 million men in Canada.
16% of the Canadian men went.
Canada has over the century a population 1/10 or so of the USA
USA had 99 million in 1914.
4.7 million served. 2.8 million served overseas.
116, 208 died. 202, 948 wounded.
I am sure the US military has teams in France and Belgium trying to identify those MIA or unknown.

A thankless but necessary function of militaries who care about their troops. Remains of a B-52 crew from our squadron shot down in Vietnam were returned thanks to their efforts.
