President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia was concerned about an anti-missile defense system near its borders, after announcing that Russia would add more than 40 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) to its nuclear arsenal this year. Putin made his comments a day after Russian officials denounced a U.S. plan to station tanks and heavy weapons in NATO member states on Russia’s border. Putin said it was the most aggressive act by Washington since the Cold War a generation ago. Responding quickly to Putin’s remarks, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg accused Russia of unwarranted “saber rattling” and said this was “destabilizing and dangerous.”

We will be forced to aim our armed forces … at those territories from where the threat comes. Vladimir Putin

Flexing of muscles. We have nukes too, not to mention a bit more than they do.

Weakness is provocative to totalitarian nations. They are moving in to fill the vacuum the Obama administration is leaving in world affairs.

In his desire to avoid war through accommodation and appeasement Obama is making a hot war much more likely.

Careful about the pot calling the kettle black. We've been in the upgrade process for years shifting from the Trident C-4 to the D-5. SALT limited numbers and some other characteristics. Our strategic stuff is rather long in the tooth too and raises "reliability" issues. An AF member can weigh in on what the land side's been doing.
