This Russian aircraft carrier AKA Heavy Cruiser with a flight deck has had really bad luck.
This ship uses the worst form of bunker oil and the smoke plume can be seen for 50 miles or more.

Interesting. You would think they'd have figured out a way to reduce the exhaust visibility. But then the Russians aren't so interested in that with surface ships. I've seen what their ships look like at sea and they are not maintained very well.

If you watch the video, the Russian aircraft carrier had to add a tow ship to their flotilla because of the carrier breaking down so often. They brought the Admiral and one of the top Pilots of the Russian carrier to an American aircraft carrier that was on its last tour before getting put into the mothball fleet. It was a conventional powered aircraft carrier and the Russians were impressed how fast the demonstration of US Navy launching planes and then recovering them. They took one of the Russian officers and an F-14 and he was so elated! It was kind of depressing for them also because the American Carrier didn't smell like bunker oil nor that it smell like a sewer like theirs did. A 30-year-old aircraft carrier was still doing a better job than a supposed new aircraft carrier from the Soviet Union.
