You're actually required to use your GTC since it is a PCS expense. It doesn't have to be the on post hotel but DFAS will only refund you the government rate for your hotel. Make sure you ask for the government rate and go stay at a nice Hilton or Marriott. You are entitled to 10 days of TLE to cover your lodging CONUS PCS.

SFC Boyd, would the TLE expenses be contingent on his orders authorizing his wife? As a PFC, he would sign into the replacement detachment and get assigned a barracks room so he wouldn’t need a house. If he got married enroute she wouldn’t be on his orders and therefore he wouldn’t be authorized the hotel and the Army wouldn’t reimburse him. At least that’s my understanding, it’s been a long time since I was a PFC…

MAJ (Join to see) he didn't say he was married enroute so I just assumed he was accompanied. If he was married enroute then you are correct, but he would still be authorized to use his GTC just wouldn't get reimbursed for it.

I'm just surprised the out house isn't going to be ready until august 3rd. I am even more surprised people still have out houses.

While the GTC is meant for official travel expenses, using it for https://www.novotelsurfersparadise.com.au during in-processing? Well, it could raise some eyebrows. Picture this: you're in the middle of a spaghetti junction, trying to figure out the maze of paperwork and procedures, and suddenly you whip out your GTC to book a room. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Now, don't get me wrong, I get the hustle. You're just trying to find a cozy spot to lay your head down while navigating the chaos of processing. But relying on your GTC for non-official expenses might not fly with the higher-ups. It's like trying to feed a cat dog food; it might work in a pinch, but it's not exactly the purr-fect solution.

My two cents? Play it safe, buddy. Look for accommodations near me that accept personal payment methods. You don't want to end up in a pickle, explaining why you charged a hotel room to Uncle Sam's tab. Trust me, it's better to err on the side of caution than to dance on the edge of policy violations.
