Recruiter
Recruiter covering 6 counties in the Panhandle region of Florida. Recruited in all specialties except medical. Made 'Senior Recruiter' numerous times for exceeding my annual quota. Recruiting is 'normally' a 4 year tour but I did so well that they retained me as a recruiter for 8 years.
Jul 1975 - Nov 1975
Parachute Rigger's School (student)
A parachute rigger is a person who is trained or licensed to pack, maintain or repair parachutes. The course provides training on inspecting, packing, rigging, recovering, storing, and maintaining air item equipment. The student receives concentrated instruction on the troop back parachute. The student is required to jump the parachute he/she packed during the examination. Throughout the course, the student is constantly reminded of the fact that all parachutes must be packed with meticulous care to insure proper functioning. Any malfunction could result in death or in equipment loss. Our motto? "I will be sure always". I successfully completed the school and am extremely proud to wear a 'Red ball cap'.
Feb 1965
U.S. Army Airborne School (Jump School)
The course is divided into three sections; Ground Week, Tower Week and Jump Week. After the successful completion of 5 jumps during Jump Week you're awarded the United States Army Parachutist Badge (commonly referred to as "Jump Wings") and orders authorizing your wearing of the badge. When I completed the school the instructors were still 'pinning your wings' on you by putting the pins of the badge against your chest and pounding them onto/into you with their fist. This is why old timers like me still call them "blood wings". lol
