I was born in the Socialist Republic of California, but defected to the United States in 1981 and joined the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. After six years on active duty I got out to finish college, and also spent two years in the ANG. I went to medical school in 1995. I received a direct commission to Captain in the USAF in 1996. I served as a medical officer from 1998 to 2002.
