3rd Class Petty Officer SHIPSERVICEMAN
I started as a seaman on the USS Halsey (DLG-23) 23 August 1968, as a Boatswain's Mate and within 9 months I was transferred to Supply as a Ship's Serviceman Laundry and Clothing Store person to replace 3 sailors who were not in compliance with the Chief Master-at-Arms portal call and policy. Within one year studying the Ship Serviceman's 3rd Class Petty Officer's course I was promoted to Ship Serviceman Petty Officer 3rd Class in July 1969. I spent 3 years on the USS Halsey (DLG-23) until 13 Nov 1971 decommissioned to Bath. ME and upgrade the O-1 to O-3 Level reconstruction for new equipment. I was then ordered to Active Duty on the USS Sacramento (AOE-1) at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) Bremerton, WA. until released of duty 13 March 1972.
