Military Experiences

Jan 1979 - Apr 1980
Sr Administrative Supervisor
Nov 1978 - Mar 1980
Senior Administrative Supervisor
I was reassigned from Vienna upon being promoted to MSgt E8. MDW is/was responsible for The Old Guard, The US Army Band, and all personnel assigned to The Pentagon and Fort Meyer. I had to quickly learn the special critique for Honor Guard soldiers. I also found myself in a position where many decisions were made for political and not military reasons. That was one of the reasons I decided to retire as quickly as I was able.
Feb 1977 - Oct 1978
Administrative NCO
I used my fluency in German to coordinate the return of military equipment provided to the Austrian military at the end of The Occupation. That required me to visit every military installation in the country. I was also responsible for preparing the annual budget requests to include Foreign Military Training of Austrian soldiers and airmen. It was also my responsibility to review all Austrian newspapers - in German - to discover any and all information useful to the US military and State Department.
Jul 1974 - Jan 1976
Senior Personnel NCO
I was the senior enlisted advisor to the Deputy Surgeon General on recruiting personnel to serve in specialized research positions in the command's laboratories. In coordination with the S&E Office in Army DSCPER and the Recruiting Command, changes were made to the appropriate personnel regulations and, in less than 18 months, I had helped find 100% of the required medically qualified personnel.
