Started as Team leader in Gardner, MA , after a break in Service. Reached SSG and was SQD LDR and Acting PSG until deployment of OEF. Conducted Light Infantry operations. Deployed to Katrina and ETT RC-West Afghanistan.

From Forward Observer to FS SGT, call/lead/instructed all aspects of CFF at the Company level and supported the 1-101st FA RGT units in annual training by CFF. Highlight was deployment as part of two man FO teams to IFOR, Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of NordPol Brigade units (Polish Airborne and Norwegian Infantry BN).

Conduct Infantry Operations in support of a PLT and Co Airborne Infantry operations as part of an Airborne Battalion Combat Team, assigned to AMFL-NATO. Conducted operations in Italy, France, Germany and Turkey. Main mission was Airfield seizures. Participated in re-enactment ceremonies in Normandy, France in 1988 to include a parachute jump over Utah Beach.

I learned from the Best NCOs of the Post Vietnam era all the techniques of Infantry warfare. Reconnaissance missions, Defensive and Offensive Operations and Ambush. Those NCO drill into me the foundations of what an Infantry Soldier needs to be successful in modern warfare. I dug foxholes, set up booby traps, use camouflage and learned how to move without detection, how to find that inner energy to stay awake on a defensive perimeter, when you are exhausted and how to fight to win.

Mobilized as part of 1-182 IN with HHC. Mission to provide FOB security operations in the Kabul Cluster. Assigned to Camp Phoenix. Participated in mounted as well as dismounted operations in the AO.

Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) - Afghanistan
Operated as part of an ETT team assigned to ABP Unit assigned to protect Western border of Afghanistan, from Turkmenistan to Iran. RC-West Herat, Afghanistan. Pretty much patrolled about 80% of the Western Afghanistan border from Badgish, Herat and Fara provinces with the Afghan Border Police while we mentor them in effective TTPs.
