Bow before me for I am root...basically I'm a unix nerd that figured out how to get paid for what I enjoy doing. Unix geek/nerd. I brought the first local Internet access to the Village of Dundee, Michigan in May 1996. Proficient running Internet servers for email and web on Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. Lit up the Village of Dundee with outdoor wireless Internet in 1999--years before cable and the telephone companies could do it. We're still here after 20 years...results count!

Logistics Chief

3569 Recruiting Squadron | Los Angeles, CA

Originally assigned as the Chief of Administration, I was told within a week or two after arrival I had been hand selected to this assignment to replace the current Chief of Logistics, a Major who was under investigation and fired immediately after I was told about becoming the new Chief of Logistics. I inherited a Logistics division that had been demoralized by my predecessor's unbelievable level of micro-managing...and an IG inspection coming up within 30 days. The squadron commander was certain we would get an UNSAT and that told me he would be happy if we could bring it up to a MARGINAL. I turned my staff loose to fix what they knew needed to be fixed and ran interference for them when they ran into roadblocks. We got a SAT from the IG 30 days later. Results count!

Executive Officer

10 CSG | RAF Alconbury, UK

Executive Officer to 10 Combat Support Group Commander (aka Base Commander). I did a lot of special projects including, but not limited to, aircraft accident investigation board recorder (3 mishaps); escorting/hosting Soviet inspectors at RAF Molesworth pursuant to the INF Treaty and the GLCM drawdown; recovering surplus assets at DRMO from the European force drawdown; automating the Base Detail program, and much more. In 1990, as a result of all these projects, I was selected as the USAFE Outstanding Information Management Senior NCO. I loved this job! I was also a member of the RAF Alconbury Base Dart Team that won the U.K. Military Dart Championship in 1989.

Special Assignment

511 TFS | RAF Alconbury, UK

In late September or early October 1990, I was assigned to the ADVON team for the deployment of the 511 TFS to 'somewhere in Eastern Saudi Arabia' for Operation Desert Shield (and later Desert Storm). My instructions from the 10 TFW Wing Commander were (paraphrased) "MSgt Rountree, I want those pilots to fly missions and I want the maintainers to keep them flying. I want you to do everything else." More later on this unique assignment...
