Interesting to say the Least. Sounds Politically Driven. Kind of Sorry that I don't follow Japanese Politics more closely.

Yes vey politically driven. I am very interested in the topic since I had been stationed at MCAS Iwakuni back in 1996. Three service members had just raped a Japanese girl in Okinawa and so I was subjected to intense training about minding my "pees & ques" before coming to Japan.

SSgt Robert Marx - Always good to mind your Ps and Qs, Japanese Culture is very sensitive. I spent a week in Yokosuka, Several Layovers in Yakota but only one 2 hr fuel stop in Okinawa, on the way to Desert Storm, I was struck by the Steam/Humidity coming out of the Jungle onto the Runway.

The U.S will never give up Okinawa. That's the entire 3rd MarDiv and III MEF. Was stationed there in 97-98 at III MEF on Camp Courtney, they were going to build a heli pad up north. I guess not.
