This is not a new issue. In WWII Hitler had the Youth BDE, in Africa, many children were "conscripted" into fighting or killed if they refused, and now you have ISIL keeping the "tradition" of using children as warriors alive. I DO NOT like the idea of this being we are in a profession of arms, we have codes we work by, and morals we live by. Not harming women and children are at the top of both lists. I've met men who've had no choice but to kill a child, and both said they cry to this day for having to make that decision. In both cases the child was used as a suicide bomber, so I see why they had no choice, and both were fathers with young boys at home. It's been noted for over a decade that SA has used their "education" system as a means to spread the word against the "Great Satan". In the Stan you had the Madrassas, who had men who "taught" these kids how "bad" we were, and the kids don't think to ask how do you know, so they accept it at face value. I don't think removing what we hold dear is the problem or a good solution, but should the day come where another troop has to make that decision, we need to rally around him or her. That action will destroy them internally the moment they actually have time to think about what they did...unless they are psychopaths.

MAJ Ken Landgren - Sir this is one LOADED question. I'm torn by this. By my belief in Christ, I'm supposed to turn the other cheek and forgive those who trespass against me. In this case, as soon as I turn, I'm dead. As for being a Soldier, we'd have to kill 100% of them, and acknowledge the fact that while we kill 100% of what we see, there is 100% more of them we didn't kill being they are the ones coming up in the system, and we cannot kill them...they haven't done anything to us yet. So is killing 100% of anything possible? NO. Is attempting this worth the headache? NO. We already know that playing wack a mole already has failed, but makes it seem to the general public that we're doing "something" to address the inadequacies of not being able to destroy an idea. Could we kill every single thing in the ME? Easily, and you won't have a shortage of people willing to attempt it. Who is stupid enough to order that? I can think of one man who would. This man thought killing the families and using torture would be a solution to this. Next is who is stupid enough to follow through with it? The military should say no, but you have those who would try, and find out that what you did was stupid, the results are minimal, and you will be in prison for the rest of your life. So you let Murican's do it. Most of them talk a lot of smack, and tell you they like "huntin". Shooting a deer is a LOT different than shooting a man. Ok there are some who've shot at men. Now it's a big difference when shooting at a man who cannot shoot back, and a man who would die easily for his cause taking you with him, while you'll do whatever not to die for yours. America is NOT ready for the literal bloodbath that would ensue if we had the intent of 100% irradiation of this "problem". 98% is too high. What CAN stop it, is a reevaluation of our foreign policies. Are we being equal players across the board, or is there one country in the ME we give passes to for everything, but they don't for us? Are we killing ourselves for oil and mineral rights? What does the ME really mean to us? What CAN stop it is an honest assessment of ourselves and what are the goals of the country, NOT the profit margins of Big Businesses or Oil.

What we need to do is reduce the size of ISIS by killing them, then it will be more manageable for local security forces.

MAJ Ken Landgren - Sir, you cannot kill 100% of anything. Local security forces? What and who are they? It's the idea we need to discredit. "Kill" the idea, and the masses move onto the next "cause".

Trust me, Iraq is starting to retake ISIS cities. Are you familiar with Carl Von Clausewitz?

Unfortunately as some point out a majority of the American public at this time has not yet 'gotten the word' that we are in a global war against 'World Terrorism', with emphasis on world/global, and not a number of unassociated local garden-variety terrorists. Terrorists are out to get US and the longer we treat them with kid-gloves, rules of engagement, treaties, conventions, rights and privileges of civilised people, they will continue to love it and keep on winning. Such parameters were intended to keep US and people civilised. Terrorists are not civilised and accept no boundaries or moralities at any level. Unless we fight fire with fire, we are out of luck. Maybe when a few more bombs go off around here or there are a few more attacks like San Bernardino, people will begin to change their attitudes and open up. Until then keep yr head down and your powder dry.

The greatest threat to Americans these days isn't terrorists or terrorism, it's Americans - in one form or another.
