You might want to take a quick read of Chapter 2 of Thom Hartmann's "Threshold: The Crisis of Western Culture" [Viking Adult (July 23, 2009) - ISBN-10: [login to see] - ASIN: B002ZNJWHM] and think about what he has to say about "protectionism" and "unregulated economies".
I don't say that he is right, but what he does say is both interesting and largely unknown to the general populace.

What Chicago teaches us is what we already knew (if paying any attention whatsoever). These are the same ne'er-do-wells we have seen in the occupy movement, BLM and other liberalistas funded by some walking around money and organization (through social media) by moveon-org. There is nothing new here. This isn't some groundswell of outrage it is a coordinated attempt to squelch speech they do not like in typical liberal fascist fashion. They want to label as racists/xenophobic/hate speech etc because they don't like it.
The editorial writer is another clued out liberal that cheers at shutting down speech he doesn't like but would gnash his teeth on rocks if "Trumpistas" showed up to a Sanders/Clinton rally and attempted to shut them down.
Protestors have the right to protest, they do not have a right to shut down others speech or wreak mayhem or violence etc. If they wanted to stand across the street and protest that is fine. We should be careful about the behavior we tolerate today, it may come back tomorrow in a different form.
I prefer to read The Fate of Empires by Sir John Glubb. If you want to know where we are heading, that is a pretty good read with plenty of historical precedent.
