Does this affect you? It affects me. I wonder if those who serve are more attuned to their mortality than others. We can mask our fears with bravado. We can march in cadence to the ports of embarkation with our heads held high as those who send us in harm's way cheer. We can rush one quaking knees into the maw of combat. Still, if we are honest, we all know that we are mortal and some things simply remind us. This performance does that for me.

This is one "tune" I could live without. I know it's not a negative thing, but the meaning of "the day is done", I'm not done yet. I've heard it too many times, and couldn't make it through the first few notes this time. I am mortal, but there is still some gas in the tank, and until that gas runs out, or we switch to some kind of biofuel, I have stuff to do and get done. When St. Pete is ready to inspect my uniform and determine if I'm ready to come home, this "tune" will not be played, because even then my day will not be done.
