Well, I have degenerative disc disease, I'm legally deaf in one ear, bad knees, arthritis in my shoulders and hands, mild PTS, and a retirement check.

Honesty though, I love my time in and wouldn't trade it for the world.

SSG Stephan Pendarvis - Some people retire and get golf clubs or a watch. Those wear out or get lost. I'll always have my limp.

From a 17 year old punk, likely prison bound, troubled kid to a Airborne Ranger that fully retired at the age of 42.

I'd say the transformation was pretty fucking epic.

Definitely for the better... I was in a bad place - professionally speaking - when I commissioned. I did it for the betterment of self and the desire of learning how to be a leader. 8 years later and I have turned my professional life around, made great friendships, feel such a sense of belonging, as I hoped I would, strive to not just better myself but better others, learning what it takes to be a successful and respected leader. I'm a lifer as long as they will have me. I love our military.
