When I was a young lad in my teens and 20s, maybe. Now that I'm in my 50s, I prefer to have an air mattress and a thick sleeping blanket if and when I have to "rough" it...

You wouldn't enjoy camping with me. I use a thick sleeping bag and sleep on the ground in my tent. I do take a pillow though. LOL

At this point, I'm still waiting for the guy who writes about what it's like to roast grubs for dinner because he flubbed his chance at snaring a hare or snatching a trout. We can all spend money on the gear, but have we spent the time and effort to prove our mettle?

SSG (Join to see), When we go camping, any meat we have came out of a grocery store. The fish come out of a lake or river. If I had started out trying to get my wife and kids to eat grubs or crickets, or anything like that, I'd be camping by myself. The proper term for snatching a trout, is catching a trout. If a guy goes camping and doesn't have any experience getting his food in the wild, by fishing or hunting, he's spinning his wheels. He's going to be one miserable soul.

During camping, us kids would always be jealous of how our grandpa would catch the most fish during our trips. We eventually figured out that he was spraying the bait down with something kind of stink spray. In the end, we didn't care because it meant a bigger fish fry at the end of the day.
